Shall we Impromptu Quilt along .....

I am joining the Impromptu Quilt Along that is being organised by Katy at Monkey do. The plan is to use the Impromptu quilt pattern by Rachel Griffiths of ps i quilt.

It is a simple quilt using a layer cake as the starting point but i am going to do a little stash busting so instead of a layer cake i have sorted out a stack of fabrics.

I haven't yet decided whether to use the plain red at the top or the checked red at the bottom. I am using white as the background and will use red for the binding.

So why not join in the fun it all starts on the 1st June. There is a Flickr group for sharing your progress.

Sugar Block Club

The Sugar Block Club is being hosted by Amy Gibson of Stitchery Dickory Dock. It is a block of the month programme that gives you a lovely block to stitch, and also a yummy recipe to make as well.

 

On the first of each month a nice little surprise arrives by email.

I am loving this little project, there is no plan for these blocks you can lay them out however you wish.

 

 I have just finished the May block.

I can't wait for June............Happy sewing.

 

Inspiration strikes.

I am currently slightly obsessed by this video and idea

I need to have ago but will have to wait until next week as i have an outfit to make for someone.

Hexagons

I have made a little progress with my hexagons for Lily's quilts hex-along.

I thought i would just show you.

First the finished ones.

Second the work in progress.

It's a small start but i am enjoying it. I think it will come a bit addictive as i keep see such wonderful ideas over at the Lily's quilts flickr group.

Handbags

I love handbags i love making them!

My latest creation is from Lisa Lam's of uhandblog book The bag making bible.

It is the first pattern in the book for the bucket bag.

With a few alterations as you can see i changed the handles to leather ones and made them shorter as i don't carry a handbag on my shoulder. 

The were made for me by the lovely lady at Bags of Handles.

I made the fabric up first using the technique that Lynne at Lilys quilts used for the Shabby chic Union Jack wall hanging project over at Moda Bake Shop.

Then i made up my lining adding pockets to keep things organised, this means the bag is not reversable.

Added very cute feet to the bottom of the bag ... i love these they are practical and cute as well as simple to fit.

The lit

tle feet came from Lisa Lam's shop over at U-Handbag, there is loads of great supplies over there for making bags definately worth a look. 

I am really pleased with the way it turned out it is nice and roomy and such a cute shape.

I am already planing my next one or 2 ...... or 3!

Hex - a - long.

Over at Lily's Quilts a hex-a-long is being hosted i have been toying with some ideas for while using hexagons, so this seems a perfect moment to start.

I have had a dive around in the stash and ended up in the scraps bin and sorted it out into heaps this seems a good place to start.

I will see how it goes, the colours are mostly muted so i may need to add a little something at a later stage.
The templates i printed are from the Candied Hexagon quilt that inspired all this to start with.

Recycling

I have always liked the challenges involved with recycling and make do with what you have rather than buying new every time. When picked up issue 7 of Making magazine I was delighted to find a project for making Rag rugs.

I have for sometime been hoarding my old duvet covers and sheets that are no longer useable unwilling to throw them away - this is because most of them were wedding presents and I feel very sentimental about them.

We have needed a new bathroom mat for awhile and it seemed a perfect way of using some of the old duvet covers, so after a sort through I came up with a cover and bed valance in shades of blue.

And after a little stash dive in my work room some blue & white and red & white fabric that I have had for many years.

So I am now turning this pile of strips into this this rug.

So this is my current obsession.
